activity requirements
AC would be two (2) proofs of any of the following:
  • A log thread with at least five (5) comments coming from your character.
  • A network thread with at least ten (10) comments coming from your character.
  • A network post with at least ten (10) comments coming from your character.
All proofs must include threads with separate characters (example: If you used a thread with Character A for your first proof, you may not use a thread with the same character for your second proof). If you cannot make AC in a given month, players are allowed to take a strike. Players are allowed a total of two strikes — three strikes, and you're out. Being removed from the game after three strikes will earn you a month-long suspension from apping the character back into the game. Players are only allowed to use a hiatus exemption from AC once every three months, but they are allowed to hiatus as often as they see fit. If a player has extenuating circumstances and needs to hiatus for longer than a month, feel free to contact a mod.

CHARACTER
Character Name: Full name if available, in First, Last order.
Character Age:
Canon:
Canon Point:
World Description: For OCs only- delete if you are apping a canon character. Here is where a short description of your OC's world and the kind of place they came from goes. This doesn't need to be extensively detailed, we just need an idea of the setting!
History: A link to wiki is acceptable here, for characters with sufficient wiki entries. If your character does not have a Wiki, is an OC, or is not sufficiently mentioned in their canon's Wiki, then please give us a little more information about the story that lead up to their canon point. Please try to be concise- we're not looking for a play-by-play, we simply want an idea of what they've been up to!
Personality: As always, here's the section you want to be thorough on. If you're having trouble, ask yourself about your character motivations, how they interact with strangers or friends, what drives them, and how their personalities have developed and grown throughout canon. While we encourage the use of canon examples to back up personality statements, we also value your own voice and opinions here.
Inventory: Weapons, pets, the kitchen sink? If it's on your character at the time of their canon point and it can fit through an 8' by 4' hole, then they can bring it in. Vehicles, large mechs, and pet elephants, however, will have to stay at home.
Abilities: This is the section where you would detail your character's powers, if they have any. In addition, we would like to know the things that your character excels at. Are they a good fighter? A chessmaster? Do they know ancient Greek? Let us know!
Flaws: In theory, the Door only brings in evil and chaos. Here is where you would detail the chaotic parts of your character- let us know some of the bad things about them, maybe some of the wicked acts they've done, why they could have been swept up by the Door. Even small things, like 'he gets angry when someone steals his lunch at work' or 'she oversleeps all the time' will count. If your character is the purest cinnamon roll to ever exist and has nothing horrible about them, then you can put that in this section as well and be an exception to the rule.

SAMPLES
Action Log Sample: We only require one sample in Hadriel, and it can either be in paragraph or bracket form. The sample must be at least 300 word minimum and should demonstrate your character's thoughts and introspection. You may link samples from our monthly Test Drive Meme as well.

THE CHARACTER

Character Name: Roman (given name is Ian Kruger, chosen name is Roman)
Series: Blindspot
Canon Point: End of Season 2, prior to two-year time skip
Character Age: 29/30
Background: LINK.

Personality:
Anyone first meeting Roman would undoubtedly think that he's a little different. He can seem strange, and conversations with him may be a little stilted and awkward, not always flowing naturally. He tends to be more laconic, not giving much information at times, or at least not right away. He does a lot of thinking, lost in his own thoughts, without always realizing it may be helpful to those around him if he surfaces from those thoughts at times. These characteristics were bred in him over a lifetime of being trained, conditioned, and manipulated by others. Roman is used to being submissive, but when he feels comfortable with someone and believes he's free and open to speak, he is capable of eventually opening up more, expressing his thoughts and emotions. But by the very nature of his upbringing, Roman is still not always the best at expressing himself in a normal and healthy way; he can have a short fuse of a temper when he feels threatened, but is also very good at burying his emotions as a defense mechanism. There are times when he may seem overly vulnerable to the point of seeming childlike in some regards, his mental and emotional development somewhat stunted due to the traumas he's suffered in his life. He has a deep, abiding need for love, connections, and validation, and he's still learning how to express that in productive ways.

Roman and his sister were forced into a child soldier program at a young age, after witnessing their parents' murder. Roman was the more sensitive, tender-hearted of the two siblings; as such, he suffered early on, often a target of bullies and the orphanage caretakers. In order to survive, he had to learn the hide the things he loved, and this formed much of his personality and who he would become as an adult. He's been diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder, lacking an ability to feel empathy and love, but there is a clear and obvious dichotomy between the Roman who was manipulated and brainwashed, and the Roman with the tender heart still buried beneath the surface, fighting to get out. He was trained to kill people, and he did. He hurt many people, but by his own admission, he never wanted to, and he never enjoyed it. He was always under orders, and it was the only life he'd ever known.

When his memories were recently and temporarily erased (by his sister, in a desperate attempt to give him a chance at a better life), we had a glimpse at who Roman really was without the brainwashing he'd endured. This Roman was lost and vulnerable, with a quiet and peaceful nature. He was scared of the man he'd once been, fearful of the world because he didn't know or understand his place in it, but he never wanted to be a monster again, never wanted to go back to the old Roman and hurt people. He feels an emptiness inside of him, all of his emotions muted, even the extreme ones like love and hate. But he still wants to try and do good, and as his memories slowly return, despite his anger at his sister for taking away his memories for a short time, Roman now knows what it feels like to be a better person, to be free of the manipulation and control his mother had over him, and that's the life he wants.

He has many weaknesses, but his most important ones are possessing a short fuse when he's angry and provoked. His anger is not a constant, but it can be fierce in times when he feels personally threatened or attacked. He doesn't express himself well at times, simply becoming emotional without giving a full explanation for what he's feeling. Roman is capable of violence, and he's hurt many people, but he doesn't kill or hurt anyone because he enjoys it or he wants to, he's under orders. So to expand on that, another weakness of his would be that he can be easily influenced, especially when he's emotional, and he can't see all sides of a given situation, he can only see his side/the side he was told to follow. He needs to be more open-minded, and this is something he's more capable of now, being away from his mother's influence, but it's also something that will take time for him to de-condition himself to. For all his faults and his many sins, Roman is not remorseless, nor is he a sadistic person, but he will have a lot of self-loathing to overcome, and this could lead to a bit too much self-depracating and self-destruction on his part.

Roman's strengths are that he is loyal, protective, brave, and persistent. He is capable of love, but he's unfamiliar with expressing it. However, this is something he wants to understand and learn more about. He is capable of doing kind and compassionate things, as well, and with his memories wiped, we see this is part of his core personality, though these tendencies were muted and blocked out as a result of his conditioning. Away from the world he knew, separated from all that negative influence, these more positive traits will be allowed more room to flourish, especially with positive, kind, and loving influences.

For much of his life, Roman was motivated by executing one solitary mission: to overthrow the United States government. This was a result of a belief that the government was corrupt, that many innocent people were killed and/or hurt by the people in power, who simply wanted more power, who viewed innocent people as collateral damage. Roman and his family believed the government had lost its mind, and that it needed to be overthrown, with more righteous, incorruptible people put in power. At his core, his intentions were good, but the execution of this plan was terribly flawed because they harmed innocent people themselves, in their mission to stop people they thought were terrible. Roman was devoted to this cause, allowing room for nothing else in his life. As a point of assurance, Roman will not try to harm anyone around him in a game setting. He's not a violent person by nature, and he's also not the type to start conspiring to overthrow any other leadership around him. His willingness to go along with his family's mission was entirely due to wanting to follow their lead, not be left behind.

For a brief period of time, Roman pursued a romantic relationship, and he even contemplated running away with the woman he loved, but his devotion to his cause with his ultimately overrode that. This further proves, however, that love is something he is not only capable of, but desires.

With his primary mission in life now failed, and his world ended, Roman's completely lost and aimless. He has no family members breathing down his neck, telling him what to think or feel, and his primary motivation now will simply be to understand himself better. He also will want to try and be a more normal person, to understand what it means to feel and think the way others do. There's so much about life that he never had a chance to explore, so many things he never had the opportunity to really enjoy, and he'll want to explore all of this. Something as simple as human touch and connection is fairly foreign to him, so this will motivate him to deal with his emotions and his emotional baggage, to try and be worthy of something better.

Powers/Abilities:

  • Able to speak Spanish

  • Highly skilled with weaponry and self-defense

Power Nerfs (if applicable): N/A

Inventory: Roman will arrive with the clothes he's wearing, cell phone, and a book (100 Years of Solitude).

Incentives:
1. Roman has a complicated relationship with his sister, Jane Doe, but he would still want assurances that she be kept safe.
2. In a fit of anger, Roman threw away a very special coin that he and his sister had kept in the orphanage. It's sitting somewhere at the bottom of the Hudson River, but if that could be found and given to him, it would mean the world to him.
3. The more he remembers about himself and the terrible things he did, the worse he feels. Memories are a tricky thing to mess with, but if there was a way for some of his more awful memories to be taken away, he'd be highly motivated to do whatever was asked of him.

WARNING/BACKGROUND
Roman has also killed a lot of people (along with some innocent people at times in the pursuit of carrying out their mission) and is technically a domestic terrorist. He's been diagnosed with an antisocial personality disorder and declared to be devoid of an ability to feel sympathy or love, but we've also seen that he still has the capacity for humanity, wanting to help others. He's simply never really been given the chance to not be anyone's pawn. Under the right circumstances, and surrounded by people who could help him to see the light and not the lifetime of darkness he's so conditioned to, Roman is capable of good.

However, because of his violent past, if you feel uncomfortable interacting with him, let me know! He won't try to just hurt your character for no reason, he doesn't enjoy killing or hurting people, but I recognize some of his past actions could be triggery.
SHIPPING PREFERENCES
We've only seen one instance of Roman being in a "relationship," and it wasn't by any means normal. He got close to Kat Jarrett, a member of a biker gang who worked closely with Roman and sold HMX explosives to him/Sandstorm prior to Sandstorm executing Phase I. Roman's sister, Jane/Remi, didn't approve of their relationship, so Roman only saw Kat in secret. He disappeared, though, without an explanation. By all accounts, he seemed to genuinely care about Kat, but he had to bury his feelings according to his sister, and he didn't have a chance to really pursue love or anything normal.

With the right person - someone who would have to be incredibly patient, amongst other things - Roman could be capable of loving deeply, it would just take quite a bit of time, love, and patience.

history

At a very young, impressionable age, Roman watched as his parents were brutally murdered in front of him. Along with his sister, he was abducted and forced into a child soldier program by the very same people who had killed his parents. He lived in deplorable conditions, and he was forced to fight every inclination he had as a child to retain his humanity and care about others. Showing he cared, holding onto any love or tender feelings would have been a weakness and gotten him killed.

He killed another child in the orphanage - a child who had tormented and bullied him - after being locked in solitary confinement, in total darkness, for many long days. This same child had stolen a very special token from him, something his sister had given him, so he had a lot of unresolved anger, and he'd been driven temporarily made by the confinement.

He was also given a rabbit by their captors and told he had to kill the rabbit, but he couldn't. He was rescued by Shepherd, who became his adoptive mother, and she forced Ian/Roman into joining her terrorist organization, Sandstorm. Their aim was to take down the United States government because of what the government had done to many innocent people, but innocent people would be killed as well.

personality

Roman survived traumatic and horrific circumstances in the orphanage he was raised in as a child. Though he was rescued by Shepherd, he continued to be controlled and manipulated, both by her and his own sister. His entire life, he's been forced to follow the orders of everyone else.

Dr. Sun diagnosed Roman with a severe personality disorder, claiming that he's emotionally unstable and has lost his capacity for empathy and love. His primary instinct with enemies or anyone who may be a threat to him is to kill them. However, with his memory wipe, without the burden of remembering his terrible past, we have a glimpse of who Roman might have been and who he could still be. He does genuinely want to try and help others, he wants to do good. He's horrified to know that he once hurt so many people.

He's very quiet, often not saying much even with people he might be comfortable with. He gets trapped in his own mind, often taking a lot of time to think before responding. Roman struggles to trust anyone, but to anyone who can truly earn his trust, he's loyal. And those who do earn his trust are generally the people who don't force him to do things, who let him just be, who give him the chance to have his own thoughts without needing to just be compliant and do what he's told.
